Ohlins Forks and internals

Postby BobC » Sun Aug 22, 2021 8:51 am

Hi Gents,
Following my normal MO I am updating my XRx! Does anyone know where I could obtain a decent spec set of legs or internals?
Everything seems to have gone.

I think the legs of the Showa Big Piston Forks (the ones that come standard on X models) are quite adequate. You may consider sending them to a suspension specialist (I’m sure there are some good ones in the UK) . You might consider the Andreani upgrade with Ohlins springs and fluid. That’s what I did, and the difference was amazing.
Are you quite sure you have had your BPF forks set up properly for your weight and riding style?, most seem to think that those X forks do a good job, but I can tell you for a fact, the best money I ever spent on my XR, was upgrading the suspension.
Let us know what you decide to do.

Hi Bob

I have the early type forks, I had them rebuilt with new Ohlins internals by Mick Gardner Racing, they are an Ohlins suspension specialist in Barnsley, South Yorkshire. Very professional service at a good price.

The main reason I want to do this is because I want to! It's what I should've done 10 years ago. Does anyone know the length of the the stanchions on an XR1200X? Also, will the Harley wheel spindle fit in the Ohlins bottom clamps?
