ELIO DE ANGELIS 1983

Postby sturgis » Mon Sep 04, 2017 1:36 pm

I want a Elio De Angelis replica helmet, and now I've found a company that does replicas.
Cost around 500€

My fingers are itching, is there a cure for shopaholism?

Jikes, thanks!
I might give this to myself as a Xmas gift.
At least then I have an excuse...

Agreed... why not? Go for it!
But wow... Elio de Angelis... haven't heard his name for a looong time! What made you like his helmet? Or were you a fan of his?

I like retrostuff, looked at the John Player Special wich Elio De Angelis was racing for.
Old racing is much more real than now, I really admire the team effort, technical solutions and how basic and wild it used to be.
This helmet was a disaster, worked poorly and didn't protect as it was suppose to.

And that thousand yard stare racers used to have, when the death toll was way to high and everything was so cut edge dangerous is ofc horrible but thrilling!
Only thing we have left that can compare to that is the Isle of man TT.

I found a guy who does custom helmets, markashelmet on instagram
https://www.instagram.com/markashelmet/

These products are handmade and he claims the quality is safe as DOT standard (not snell).
Here's the thing, his replicas do look the best and the price is 250 us $ including shipping to all countries.

That's a nice price for a good looking helmet, but I wont ride with it.

Would you ride with it?
Other opinions?

And before you freakout on the handmade part, remember that ARAI, SHOEI are still handmade.
